April Yard of Month
winner
by Dan Therrien It is such a joy to drive around town this time of year with blossoms everywhere and homeowners getting outside and sprucing up their flower beds. This time of year is also the most difficult to do yard of the month inspections because there are so many beautiful yards but this month’s honors go to Mrs. Annie H. Jones on 16 Bishop St. in Fort Deposit. Azaleas, gardenias, roses, etc. were beautifully placed around the home in well manicured gardens along with beautifully trimmed hedges. “I’ve been an outside person all my life and love to watch flowers grow,” said this 75 year old homeowner. “I’ve planted something new every year and get out a little every day and work in the yard,” she added. Other beautiful yards worth mentioning belong to Mrs. Lenora Davison, 561, Edgewood Dr; Mrs. Martha Barganier, 215 Rogers St; Doyle and Shirley Sasser, 315 Rogers St; Joe and Roni Winningham, 317 Rogers St, Joe and Annie Bailey, 411 Lee St; Mrs Rose Ellis, 3 Church St; and Michael and Susie Coleman, 210 Golson St. Many of those homes are in the same general neighborhood and were previous yard of the month winners which shows that pride in ones home is catchy as everyone wants to “keep up with the Jones’.” A yard of the month sign will be displayed in the winner’s yard for one month, her picture will be in the Lowndes Signal as well as placement on the Fort Deposit website at www.fortdeposit.info.
