Fort Deposit Library Renovation

The new Fort Deposit Public Library has been open on a limited basis since July 2008 while renovation is underway.

"Until now we've been dealing with a badly leaking roof keeping us from setting up the library the way we'd like," said Dan Therrien, library board president. "On Dec. 9, 2008 the library board opened bids to hire a contractor resurface the roof and install a new heating and air conditioning system. Ingram Construction from Montgomery was awarded the $85,460 low-bid contract and will begin work in January 2009."

"With a new roof and climate control we will be able to set up our shelving, begin cataloging our books, issue library cards and more," Therrien continued. "This is all possible because of three grants - one from the Alabama Public School and College Education Incentive Fund, one from the Cornerstone Foundation and one from the Lowndes County Education Foundation."

"As we continue to get more funding, renovation will continue, more furnishings will be purchased, and more services will be offered," Therrien concluded.
